Gentle Dental Extractions in Middletown

Although we refer to adult teeth as “permanent,” extractions are sometimes necessary. Our dentists know that patients are more comfortable with the idea of extractions in a familiar setting. The University Dental team handles the majority of extractions at their office in Middletown, without referring patients out to a different provider.

When extractions may be needed

  • In preparation for dentures.
  • As groundwork for orthodontics.
  • When a tooth is broken below the gum line.
  • Infection that could spread to bone or become systemic.
  • The tooth cannot be saved due to a large area of decay.
  • Failed root canal therapy.
  • Advanced gum disease.
  • A crowded mouth that results in discomfort and makes it harder to brush and floss.
  • Impacted wisdom teeth.

The University Dental extraction experience

Patient comfort is a top priority in every procedure we perform. That philosophy is especially evident in the way we handle extractions. The process begins with an unhurried, thorough discussion. The dentist explains the extraction process, in as much detail as you desire. You talk about available sedation options, as well.

Once sedation and numbing has taken effect, the tooth is loosened from supporting bone and ligament, and removed. Your condition is monitored throughout the procedure, and you are not released until we are completely satisfied with your wellbeing. Verbal and written post-operative instructions are provided. Most importantly, we are only a phone call away if you have any concerns after the extraction.

Sedation options

We perform simple and surgical extractions. Numbing is often sufficient. However, anxious patients have the options of nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral conscious sedation, and intravenous sedation to relax physically and emotionally for the procedure.
